Doug: re: iPhone, no plans at the moment for either place-shifting to the iPhone or enabling playback of already-converted H.264 recordings on the iPhone. I seem to recall that we played around with the latter and that there was some issue, but I can’t remember what it was.

LandShark: Good question, I’m not sure if it works with HD-PVR recordings or not. I’ll try and test this out and let you know.

Beyond TV isn’t doing any transcoding in this scenario. It’s just streaming, via HTTP, the MPEG-2 recording and VLC is properly handling that stream, decoding it, allowing you to seek within it, etc. So there’s no processor hit on your Beyond TV Server when streaming out videos like this.

Are there any plans to support the iPhone with placeshifting? I mean heck, I’m currently saving everything as H.264 anyways. I understand that the current method is transcoding the video to a smaller format specified in the settings…. but what about playing back files that are already saved as smaller iPhone compatible formats (ShowSqueeze) within the safari browser?
