Yes, how lovely. I got to use your “so-called” 21 day demo for “3″ days.. I used PC tools “Registry Mechanic”.. A very well known, very well respected, and one of the longest and most original MS Windows registry repair programs around. PCtools Inc. has been in existence several years before before MS Windows 3.1 was released. Their program Registry Mechanic has existed and has been constantly updated since late Windows 95 days. Long story short it is not a shabby 3rd party or risky software. When I ran it, it apparently changed something in the registry that Beyond TV did not like. Ok, no problem. Or so I thought. I uninstalled Beyond TV, reinstalled it. Still no dice. I then figured perhaps your software beyond TV left behind some traces in the registry to prevent people from trying to steal extended uses from demo’s. That is totally understandable and agreeable. But that wasn’t it either. I manually edited ever reference of it in my registry because it being my registry makes it legal for me to do so specifically *while* your demo is not currently installed. I also considered the fact I only got 3 days use of it and not 21. This tells me that unless I missed an intentionally vague tag in the registry, your software intentionally left traces of files behind that are now set to lock “trial expired” so reinstall attempts can not be used to by pass purchasing or registering the software. I write software too and am aware of these methods. While I understand your reason for stopping software pirates, I feel I have been screwed over myself. For this reason I say:
I most certainly was very impressed with your software and had absolute intentions to purchase it after my trial expired or perhaps sooner.. But with only 3 days of use of the trial , and the fact that it was actually less than 3 of use due to my busy work schedule, I am disheartedly uninterested at this point and furthermore. I am also a computer consultant, but can see no reason to recommend your product.

While working at Microsoft we always had a laugh at any newbies still running registry “mechanic” software. In my eyes they’re right up there with people who pay for memory “optimizing” programs in this era of virtual memory.

Moral of your story: Don’t use registry mechanic software. Ever. Avoid it always. Use programs with clean uninstalls; if they don’t have clean uninstalls, don’t use them. There’s a reason Microsoft doesn’t have a “registry mechanic”, and the reason is no one can make an authoritative database / registry cleaner combination that will never remove only the right things. As of XP SP1 and later Microsoft’s OSs automatically fix minor registry corruption issues; leave it at that.
