NEW: Beyond TV 4.8.2
June 20th, 2008 at 11:59 am by MelissaCheck out the new features in the Beyond TV 4.8.2 release, including: Overlap Detection, Library Folder Permissions, Web Admin Program Guide, and ShowSqueeze in HD.
Overlap Detection
Ever record a show that happened to end three to five minutes pass the hour and only to find out when the season finale cliffhanger wasn’t recorded…. Well, this feature addresses that problem. Basically, when a higher priority show is being recorded and runs up to five minutes over Beyond TV will continue recording before moving on to the next recording.
Library Folder Permissions
Once you create a folder you can grant specific user groups to access those particular video folders in the library. For instance you can create a G-rated video folder and grant your kids access to only that specific folder.
Web Admin Program Guide
We’ve integrated the Program Guide into the Web Admin. Its simple and easy to use design lets you view show details and recording options.
ShowSqueeze in HD
You can now recompress your HD and SD recorded shows separately into Windows Media, DivX or H.264 formats and save hard drive space.
For a complete list of new features, bug fixes, and improvements check out the release notes.
UPDATED (6/22/2008): fixed the link to the release notes so it points at the Beyond TV release notes instead of the SnapStream Enterprise release notes (thanks Kurt and Ian).

I was taken back to see that the couchville project died, but I am VERY HAPPY to see that you integrated the code into the BTV product. I must say after using it I am impressed, I probably will not use the snapstream.net service unless from my cellphone. If you guys made a mobile version of the webadmin page then you can get rid of the SS.net site altogether.
I like also the intuitiveness of the web admin page and the fact that it is no longer just a static site especially within the new integrated program guide. This was major enough to call it 4.9 or even 5.0, 4.8.2 does not do it justice. This upgrade is a MUST!!!

Beyond TV 4.8.2 is very good with some very nice new features. Great Job!
I do have a question, which may be off-topic; if so, please let me know where to post it, if this is not the right location.
4.8.2 works well with my Pinnacle HD Ultimate Stick, even better in terms of the feature set than the software supplied by Pinnacle Systems. However, there seems to be no QAM software for detecting un-encrypted cable HD channels with Beyond TV 4.8.2. The QAM software is part of the latest version of the Pinnacle software. Another minor problem is that Beyond TV 4.8.2 is a bit of a CPU resource hog; much higher CPU cycles are needed by Beyond TV 4.8.2 than the software from Pinnacle, I have a Dual-Core Intel 3.2G Pentium D with 3.5Gigs of RAM and a 500G HD.
Please let me/us know when the QAM software will be available.
Other than these problems, Beyond TV 4.8.2 (Build 5569) works very well!
Thanks,
Alan

As usual, I must say thanks for getting features and improvements in a free point release.
Cheers,

AWESOME! I love the feature for the overlap and I’ve been wanting the WebAdmin program guide since I’ve bought it over 4 years ago. Keep up the good work!

I would agree with Abasi that a mobile version of the Webadmin program guide is required. Now Stephane is no longer supporting the Webguide software I cannot upgrade above 4.7.1 unless this is implemented in a future release. I don’t need all the settings to be available on a mobile device, just be able to schedule recordings from the program guide.

Did anybody else lose their scheduled recordings after the upgrade? Or was it just me?

Still waiting for 6 column option in the Program Guide so we can see a full 3 hour primetime block in one screen. Is that really too much to ask for?
(7 columns makes the text too small at my resolution)

Like an earlier commenter ..QAM support, it’s the only thing I want from a release right now. I should have to buy a special tuner just to do QAM support.
July 11th, 2008 at 12:34 am
sorry I should NOT have to buy a special tuner to have QAM support
July 21st, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Only want QAM support added for all cards that support. this has been requested forever. Why doesn’t anybody ever listen
August 8th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I also need QAM support. I have 3 different tuners that all support QAM and it works with the software that they ship with but not with Beyond TV. Please add QAM support in Beyond TV.

I do agree QAM support for all cards including Hauppauge cards is very important. !!!

Still waiting for closed captioning before I buy. When SnapStream finally matches the features of my 15-year-old TV set, I’ll be happy…
