BiTorrent teams up with Orb – 05/22/08
In practice, an Orb user would get access to BitTorrent content on his PC and then be able to use Orb to stream that content to any of his devices — from a PS3 to an iPhone. via NewTeeVee

Help us test the latest beta of Beyond TV

For about two weeks, we’ve been publicly beta testing the next release of Beyond TV, version 4.8.2. Some of what’s new:

  • Much faster library and scheduler
  • Scrollable Couchville-style program guide in the web interface (see screenshot below)
  • Lots of web interface improvements
  • Update DivX and H.264 encoders
  • Automatic HD ShowSqueeze exposed by default

NBC- Vista copy-protection snafu reminds us why DRM stinks – 05/14/08
Windows Vista Media Center users found themselves blocked from making recordings this week when a broadcast flag triggered the software’s built-in copy protection measures. The flag affected users trying to record prime-time NBC shows on Monday evening, using both over-the-air broadcasts and cable.

MPEG and Bitrates – 05/12/08

Hauppauge HD-PVR shipping delayed to mid-May – 04/30/08
The Hauppauge website it still tells us that the HD-PVR will begin shipping on May 1st, 2008, but there is new information that says that isn’t the case. Instead, the earliest, expected shipment dates are mid-May 2008. via BrentEvans Blog

Sezmi looks to provide alternative for cable/satellite – 05/01/08
