SnapStreamers get Shiny New Toys

October 11th, 2007 at 4:47 pm by zack

You know how sometimes you work really extra hard think no one noticed….. Well the development and business sides of SnapStream worked their collective butts off getting the Beyond TV 4.7 release out the door (passersby wondered, “where did their butts go”). Then a week or so passed and we were informed that we’d each get a new iPhone or iPod Touch to go along with the H.264 plugin we made for Beyond TV. The last of the devices just got here in the mail and we took a group picture to show our smiling faces and shiny new toys.

Now that you guys have that accomplished, can you merge Beyond Media into Beyond TV? The separate product thing makes me not want to use your product. At a minimum, make a plug in so that it can really be integrated.

Wow, nice little extra for the SS team! I’m just curious, were there more that chose the iPhone or the iPod Touch?

Snapstream is hands down, the best software App that i have ever purchased and use on a daily basis with little to no problems and have enjoyed the hell out of it for the last 4 or 5 years.

    Congrats, you deserve an Iphone!

Ditto on Joel’s comment above, ipod thingy ok, but a real media center pc app with intergration would have been even better, vista mce interface is lightyears ahead of btv right now, even mce2005 for that matter, small tv view or better yet a vista like view of the tv in the guide would also be a great enhancement, those things would push btv beyond all competitors…oh ya and a little thing like support of QAM beyond hdhomerun, most ppl have to run 2 apps just to get QAM. Add all this together and it would be an out of the park home run.

Nice to see that BTV is following in the tracks of the leading HTPC software SageTV.

It’s too bad though, that BTV users will have to PAY to automatically sync content with their iPhone/iPod while Sage users can (and have been) doing it for free for awhile now.

Buying all those iPods and iPhones sure doesn’t leave much in the budget to devote to Integration……does it? Nice to see that Snapstream has their priorities straight.

Way to go Snapstream. I used to work for a company, the gave out little surprise presents when goals were met or exceeded. That way not all of the kudos went to the sales team. These events made me feel like someone really appreciated my efforts and motivated me to do even more.

Critic (or whatever your real name is)

Your comments are not only misleading, but downright incorrect.
BTV user can now and always have been able to use the user-add-on called ipodifier to sync their shows “relatively” automatically just as they could with Sage. This “feature” was available for both BTV and Sage at the same time and it is still free.

The new add-on for Beyond TV integrates the iPod features even more so that you can set it up and customize your iPod sync easier without the need for yet another outside program like ipodifier. I’ve used both and prefer the automated method – even though it costs a little extra. When you pay for the extra iPod integration you are also getting integrated DVD burning as well and again it requires no extra software to set up.

    Greetings!

I hope you guys enjoy the toys! From what I can see so far, you do indeed deserve them. I’m just getting into Beyond TV after fighting one-to-many times with setting up GBPVR (familiar with that one?). GBPVR is great, very customizable, FREE, and I do appreciate all the work the author and community there has done, but I just couldn’t consistently get everything to work correctly. Cobbling it together was fun for a time; now I just want the stuff to work (add to that I’m a Mac guy, so I’m never happy futzing around with the living room PC for too long anyway).

I just wanted to add I’d love to see you guys port this to the Mac at some point. I imagine that’s a whole lot of work, and perhaps the marketshare thing is an issue, and the fact that Elgato is already serving that space fairly well.

Thanks again, and enjoy your rewards!

Can I just say I’ve been using this product since version 2 and I love it. It basically has made me never have to miss an episode of anything. Even when on the road. As a matter of fact, I was on a road trip this spring and was never out of touch with my sports wrap up shows. When i got to the hotel at night, i connected up to my computer and either streamed the show on my laptop, or downloaded to watch on my phone later.

I haven’t figured out the whole H.264 thing yet but when I do – that’ll be one less conversion step for putting it on my PSP. Great work.

Is it possible to make your software work with a IEEE-1394 firewire connection and a Mororola DCT-6412 cable box? Theoretically this should work using the public driver available on the net, used to capture streams from the box via the ‘capDVHS’ application. It would use the cable box tuner.
Please let me know if this is possible, in the works or planned for the future.
    Thanks,
